Overall an elegant, great sounding speaker system for my Ipod. As a bachelor, I wanted to avoid the college dorm style I-Homes which scream for attention. This Altec system is sleak and sounds great from mid-range through treble. The bass is there, not great but it's there. Also the moon glow makes for a nice nightlight.

This isn't something to give your grandmother to use. You do have to do a little more than simple alarm clocks to set the alarm, but there are also way more options (including wake up volume, choice between tone, radio, or ipod, days of the week, etc). Anyone who uses a computer should be able to operate the system without a problem.

Overall if you're willing to sacrifice ease of use for a great design, this is your speaker system.

Also lot of reviewers are having problems using the buttons on the device. I've found my pressing the buttons with the pads of my fingers rather than my finger tips, I never have a problem. I bought this because I wanted a portable way (no plugs) to listen to my iPod during a trip with my family this past spring. For the price, this product served its purpose well, and was far more reliable than the car adapter that I paid a lot more money for. Granted, the speaker sound isn't the highest quality, but for the price, it sounds very good.

I give this product a five star rating because it is VERY good at doing what it was designed for: providing a highly portable, budget-friendly system to play an iPod. I also wish I could give it a higher than 5 star rating, because it has been a godsend over the past month while my daughter has been hospitalized.

My daughter was intubated (due to tumor compression of her airway), and later placed on a tracheostomy and ventilator. Throughout our stay at the hospital, we have been using our Colby speakers and iPod, creating a more soothing, homelike atmosphere with music. During this month of 16 hour plus daily use, we have only had to change the batteries on these speakers ONCE (It takes four AA batteries, which makes battery changes easy, when they do need to be changed)

Nurses, respiratory therapists, and doctors have all commented about how relaxing our room feels, because of the music we are able to play.

The speakers are very simple. There is a nesting spot for the iPod, but it plays using a chord connection, just like how you would connect regular headphones to an iPod. I cannot review the clear screen cover because I never put it on since I was content with one I had purchased previously. However, I am very happy with the case itself. The color is darker than it looks online (a dark metallic grey), and the bottom is just one long hole with a border, which provides little protection. Conversely, the size of the bottom hole allows the use of different types of headphones, and I have received compliments on the coloring. Also, the consistency of the shell is very nice - not too hard or soft. I have been using this case for about a month now, and put it through quite a few hazardous situations, but it still looks new.
